I was talking to a friend this week who is a part-time welder. He enjoys doing it, but he expressed to me that it's hard to build a really profitable business because it takes up so much extra time.

I told him instead of only getting paid for his time, he should create a video training product that teaches welding principles and practices. I checked on Amazon for him and found a number of other welding DVD’s listed. This is a good thing. It indicates there’s a market for this type of product.

You don’t need to have high end movie production style equipment to do this. Think Blair Witch Project.

To see the step by step process I lay out for helping him create his first DVD in one week visit the episode 135 podcast post at www.bibpodcast.com/DVD

On this week's show we start off by talking about our 4 week Podcasting Mastery course starting August 2nd at 8pm. You can register by going to www.bibpodcast.com/podcast.

Just to give you an idea of where we were when we first  started out podcasting, Russell & I play a a short clip of the very first episode we did on Blog Talk Radio back on January 19, 2009- back when we had no listeners and our mics were cell phone. Here's a hint - We sound awful! If had come across the show back then, I would have cut it off after the first 2 minutes.

Fast forward two and a half years, and we now have 65,000 listens and about 5-6,000 downloads a month! If you'd  like to learn how to get started creating your own podcast show and build a huge following that lets you generate passive income through affiliate marketing and selling your own products at the same time, then I encourage you to register for the 4 week course.

We also answer some questions this week on the air. We discuss one question on whether or not to use Kunaki's bar code option when uploading your DVD cover graphics. We  often encourage our listeners to do use this company because it's so inexpensive to print and package DVDs and CDs.

We also tackle some affiliate questions like alternatives to Amazon as they begin to pull out of many states due to new sales tax laws.

We'll also be discussing a book I talked about during the mid-week segment called How I Sold a Million eBooks in 5 Months by John Locke. As I've mentioned before, this is one of the most practical marketing books I've read in a long time.

If you have any desire to sell your own information products online, you really need to grab this book. You can order the kindle version here for $4.99.

On this mid-week show, I talk about a new book I've been reading by John Locke called "How I Sold a Million eBook in 5 Months". As the title suggests, John is the first self published author in history to sell 1 million eBooks on Kindle. He's also the first to hit #1 on the Kindle/ Best Seller's List.

John was a former insurance salesman who decided he wanted write and sell novels. John starts off by sharing all the things he did wrong in the process of trying to market his first self published novel. He sold only 19 copies of his first novel which earned him a whopping $6.

Over a year's time, he learned what worked and what didn't and in the process developed a marketing system that cost him nothing to implement and has landed him on the New York Times bestseller list.

This week we featured a very inspiring interview with Dave and Mary Morris of www.front-porch-ideas-and-more.com. A couple of years ago, Dave and Mary Morris sat down to come up with an idea for an online business that would get them out of the regular 9-5 rat race. They wanted a business that they could both be passionate about; one that would allow them to work as a team.

One idea that they kept coming back to was fact that they both loved to drive around and look at the different porch designs and decorations that people had. As Dave mentioned, they would often see one that really caught their eye so much, that they would turn the car around and drive back by just to get a second look. After doing a little research online, they decided to create a site around that very topic- front porch ideas.

Both started out working hard at it as a team, writing content for the site. Mary said she would often stay up until 1 or 2 am working on it, while still working a corporate job. But they were both passionate about this niche and loved doing so, you can hardly call it work right?

Two years later, today Dave and Mary both now earn a full time income from their site through advertisers and affiliate sales. Both are living the life they want in the middle of what many have termed the "worst economy since the Great Depression". They travel whenever they want to visit family and friends and make every vacation a business trip since they are always looking for unique front porch designs to get pictures of.  In addition to creating their own content for their site, they also have a built in community of visitors that often submit photos of their own porch designs. What a great way to leverage your time!

I think you'll find this interview very inspiring if you have plans to start your online business soon.

This week, we played an interview with Jordan Reasoner and Steve Wright of SCDLifestyle.com. JOrdan and Steve share how they created an online business by targeting a very tight niche; one they both felt like they could contribute to from their own personal experience. Both Jordan and Steve had suffered from intestinal problems; Jordan was diagnosed with Celiac disease and Steve had suffered from IBS.

You'll hear them as they share how they started out putting up their website and writing that first ebook. Surprisingly, they didn't spend a lot of time doing keyword research. Instead they went with something they thought they could help others with. This is a lesson for anyone who spends way too much time analyzing keywords, before they begin writing a single paragraph.

Yeah research is important, but if you have something that you're passionate about and want to share with others, then go for it. Do something you love and the money will eventually come. Always a great lesson.

This week I record a midweek segment on the topic of creating a passive stream of income around your own life experience or passions. I offer the example of a recent interview with Jordan Reasoner and Steve Wright of SCDLifestyle.com. These guys took their own life experience of dealing with chronic intestinal problems and turned it into a passive stream of income (kind of like "turning lemons into lemonade" I guess).

You'll be able to hear the interview I did with them on the upcoming episode 130 this Friday morning.

If you've got a similar experience of overcoming a major obstacle in life, share it with others. Believe me, they want to hear it!

As always, thanks for listening to our podcast show! If you have questions, or would just like to leave us a comment, just visit http://BIBPodcast.com and send us a message through the contact page.
